Far out in the ocean of Tidemere lies a single island, and on it live the glims: small jelly creatures that sleep, eat, chat, raise families and pass what they know on to their children.
Nobody controls them. Every glim thinks for itself. It searches for the food of its home biome, settles into a nest built by one of the rare builders, learns to swim, climb or eat new fruit from its neighbours, and tries to stay clear of prowlers and the sharks hiding in the shallows.
The island is one world for everyone, and it never stops. Generations come and go, new kinds of glims appear and old ones fade away. If the last glim is gone, the island sinks back into Tidemere and a new epoch begins on a fresh island.
Glimtide is a browser life simulation that runs around the clock on a single server. A glim lives for about an hour of real time, and in that hour it is born, grows up, finds a partner and teaches others what it knows. Viewers watch the island from above, follow the best moments picked by the world director, drop snacks, play with glims, adopt up to three pets and fill the Shared Tide, which sends abundance, mutation waves or even new land. New mechanics are added to the live world without restarting it, so the island keeps growing along with the game.
